专利说明:
Composition of an acrylic lacquer, and a spray can filled with such a composition The invention relates to a composition of an acrylic lacquer with improved properties, and which is particularly suitable for spraying with a spray can. Acrylic lacquer is generally known as a relatively quick-drying lacquer in which a pigment or colorant is or is not incorporated in a binder of an acrylic resin dispersed in a suitable solvent. An acrylic lacquer can be applied in various ways to a suitable surface to provide it with a coating, with or without a color. The solids content in the lacquer is the content of material that actually remains as a lacquer after the lacquer has been applied and the solvents have evaporated. When organic solvents are used, the volatile organic solvent (VOC) content is used to indicate what amount of the varnish evaporates after application. The inventor has developed a further improved composition of an acrylic lacquer. which is also suitable for spraying from a spray can. In general, there is a need for an acrylic lacquer that combines several positive characteristics, including: a high covering power, a durable color and gloss, a high scratch and impact resistance, a high Standability, excellent adhesion and good resistance to chemicals and weather influences. With the composition of the acrylic lacquer according to the invention, this general need is met as well as the suitability for aerosols. To that end, the composition of the acrylic lacquer according to a first aspect of the invention comprises an acrylic resin, whether or not provided with a dye or a pigment, and a mixture of various organic solvents, which mixture comprises at least: a ketone, an ester, a alcohol, an ether, and an aromatic hydrocarbon. With such a composition it is possible to obtain a quick drying time after applying the lacquer layer to a substrate: after about 5 minutes the lacquer layer is dust-dry, after about 10 minutes tack-free and after 1 hour the lacquer layer is cured and can be sprayed on. These times relate to use of the acrylic lacquer under normal conditions. The drying time is somewhat dependent on the ambient temperature, air humidity and the layer thickness applied. The composition of claim 1, wherein the aromatic hydrocarbon is from a petroleum fraction typed as solvent naphtha, and / or the aromatic hydrocarbon is xylene. For the choice of the different components of the mixture of organic solvents in the acrylic lacquer according to the invention, the following preferences exist: Preferably, the ketone is selected from the group consisting of acetone, butanone, and a C 4 -C 6 ketone, or a combination thereof. The ester is preferably selected from the group consisting of ethyl acetate, n-butyl acetate, and a C 3 -C 8 ester, or a combination thereof. The ether is preferably selected from the group of dimethyl ether, 2-methoxy-1-methylethyl acetate, and C 2 -C 8 ethers, or a combination thereof. The alcohol is preferably selected from the group of 1-butanol, and a C 2 -C 8 alcohol, or a combination thereof. In addition, the composition according to the invention preferably also contains an aliphatic hydrocarbon selected from the group consisting of butane, propane, isobutane and a C3 -C8 aliphatic hydrocarbon, or a combination thereof. With regard to the relative levels between solids and volatile organic solvents in the acrylic lacquer according to the invention, the solids content is preferably between 5 and 20% by weight, and the volatile organic solvents content between 95 and 80% by weight, with further these two levels are resp. between 8 and 15% by weight, and between 85 and 92% by weight. In the composition according to the invention, in the mixture of organic solvents, the relative levels are preferably as follows: 30-60% by weight of ketone, 2.5-5.0% by weight of ether, 2.5-5.0% by weight % alcohol, 3.5-7.5% by weight of ester, 2.0-5.0% by weight of aromatic hydrocarbon, and 15-30% by weight of aliphatic hydrocarbon, if present. In a second aspect, the invention relates to a spray can filled with a composition according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the composition is under pressure. Such a spray can offers the advantages of the above-mentioned acrylic lacquer composition, in a directly usable form for applying it. The invention will be illustrated below with reference to an exemplary embodiment: An acrylic lacquer according to the invention was composed by mixing an acrylate resin, preferably consisting of a thermoplastic acrylate, alkyd resin and nitrocellulose, containing a black colorant, preferably a select black flame black type, dispersed, and a mixture of different organic solvents, wherein the acrylic lacquer contains 11% solids by weight and 89% VOCs by weight. This preferred embodiment for the acrylate resins has the advantage of releasing the solvents relatively quickly, whereby a relatively short drying time of the lacquer system is achieved. An additional advantage is that the film properties are substantially retained. The organic solvent mixture is composed as follows: A spray can was filled with the acrylic lacquer under pressure. A suitable substrate was pre-treated by sanding the surface to be treated and applying a primer. The acrylic varnish was sprayed onto the substrate from a distance of approximately 30 centimeters at room temperature, whereby it was applied in several layers. The applied layer was dust-dry after 5 minutes and tack-free after 10 minutes. After 1 hour a cured-sprayable acrylic lacquer had formed on the substrate. This layer is heat resistant up to 110 ° C. Wood, metal, aluminum, glass, stone and various types of plastic can be used as a suitable substrate, with comparable, good results.
